Splashing good time
LifeStyle checks out the best public pools:
Most accessible:
Delta Swimming Complex
900 Tiong Bahru Road
Open: 8am-9.30pm daily
Admission: Adults $1, children 50 cents, senior citizens 50 cents (weekdays); adults $1.30, children 70 cents, senior citizens 60 cents (weekends and public holidays)
Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex
202 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9
Open: 8am-9.30pm
Admission: Adults $1, children 50 cents, senior citizens 50 cents (weekdays); adults $1.30, children 70 cents, senior citizens 60 cents (weekends and public holidays)
Why: Redhill and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations are both just a five-minute walk away from their respective pool complexes, so they are easy to get to even if you do not drive.
Best facilities:
Jurong West Swimming Complex
20 Jurong West Street 93
Open: 8am-9.30pm, closed on Tuesdays
Admission: $1.50 for adults and 80 cents for children and senior citizens (weekdays); $2 for adults and $1 for children and senior citizens (weekends)
Sengkang Swimming Complex
57 Anchorvale Road
Open: 8am-9.30pm (Tuesdays-Sundays); closed on Mondays except public holidays
Admission: $1.50 for adults and 80 cents for children and senior citizens (weekdays); $2 for adults and $1 for children and senior citizens (weekends)
Why: Jurong West's most impressive fixture is its 92m-long slide, while the gym above it and sheltered carpark are added bonuses. The facilities in the new Sengkang Swimming Complex are more like the old Big Splash or Wet & Wild waterparks than a public swimming complex.
Most popular:
Hougang Swimming Complex
95 Hougang Avenue 4
Open: 8am-9.30pm daily
Admission: $1 for adults and 50 cents for children and senior citizens (weekdays); $1.30 for adults, 70 cents for children and 60 cents for senior citizens (weekends)
Tampines Swimming Complex
505 Tampines Avenue 5
Open: 8am-9.30pm
Admission: $1 for adults and 50 cents for children and senior citizens (weekdays); $1.30 for adults, 70 cents for children and 60 cents for senior citizens (weekends)
Why: There were lots of kids having swimming lessons at Hougang when LifeStyle visited, while Tampines had a steady stream of people heading in.
Best for people-watching:
Jurong East Swimming Complex
21 Jurong East Street 31
Open: 8am-9.30pm (Tuesdays-Sundays)
Admission: $1.50 for adults and 80 cents for children and senior citizens (weekdays); $2 for adults, $1 for children and senior citizens (weekends)
Sengkang Swimming Complex
57 Anchorvale Rd
Why: There is no way to explain why these two places have the most youths and hence, hotbods.
